Nonviolence In Our Everyday Live s We realize that nonviolence is more than a narrow tactic or a limited moral doctrine , and is certainly more than an occasional stree t demonstration . Peace and justice are only achievable through persistent day-to-day efforts that build new relationships, and tha t develop sustainable, equitable alternatives to existing institutions . One step is to build communities that work on the principles we practice in NAC meetings and of dons . These principles orient group process toward egalitarian means of decision-making and ful l participation, and foster responsibility to on e another and the community . At the same time the importance of self-eduction, listenin g skills, and activism are emphasized . Through the support and growth of per sonal and interpersonal relationships, the individuals within NAC attempt to develop new roots for social interaction . In addition to theory, we attempt to change ourselves and thereby live through example . Only throug h the conscious efforts of individuals challenging the hierarchical and violent ideologies o f our culture can we realize true social change . This approach is a deliberate and em powering choice . As everyday choices are made, such as defending beliefs against racism, fighting injustice at work, or merel y buying ecologically sound products ; the process becomes self-supporting .
