Sulfasalazine azulfidine ; was developed in the 1930s for treating rheumatoid arthritis, but fell into disfavor when gold treatment emerged.
The physician should talk to the patient about how the diagnosis of migraine was reached and help the patient understand the features of this type of headache. The discussion with the patient should also include the rationale for recommended treatment, the patient's role in the treatment, what adverse effects may occur and the importance of reporting those effects so that changes can be made, if needed. Establishing realistic patient expectations means setting appropriate goals, discussing expected benefits of treatment and estimating how long it will take to achieve those benefits. The patient needs to understand the importance of ongoing monitoring and that keeping follow-up appointments is key to ensuring that the treatment regimen is the most appropriate one and, if it is not, that it can be revised. Patient education about lifestyle changes is also important, since some medications may not work if the patient is not addressing the causal factors. Getting the patient involved is essential; he or she can track progress and the extent of disability e.g., missed days of work, school or other activities ; in a diary, flow chart or calendar. Also encourage the patient to identify and limit headache triggers. All these measures show that the physician is supportive of.

Vaccine Therapy Vaccine therapy also known as immunotherapy or allergy shots ; is an actual vaccine of exactly what you are allergic to. Vaccine therapy works much the same way that any other immunizations do. It serves to protect you while not giving you the disease. In allergic diseases, vaccine therapy makes you less sensitive. In appropriate individuals, vaccine therapy may shut off the mechanism of the allergic disease. We like to think of this as a long term remission that may last a lifetime after vaccine therapy has been stopped. It is not a cure, as the allergic state could return. infection and in maintaining proper water balance. In times of stress, they play an invaluable role. Their most important role in allergic diseases is that of anti-inflammation and they are used both as maintenance medications and for acute asthma attacks. They also decrease mucus production, airway hyper-reactivity, and increase the effectiveness of bronchodilators. Today, corticosteroids are used in almost all disciplines of medicine and are used to treat allergies, skin disorders, cancer, eye diseases, arthritis, shock and many other serious diseases. These medications are used in many different forms such as inhaled sprays for the lungs or nose, creams or ointments on the skin, orally or injected. Physicians must be very careful to use these drugs judiciously to avoid side effects and should use the minimal amounts necessary and for the shortest possible time to achieve the goal of improving the quality of life. Side effects: Short-term effects of oral steriods 7 to 14 days ; are very minimal. They include possible increase in appetite, occasional gastrointestinal complaints, fluid retention, a feeling of well being or less commonly ; mild moodiness. The risk of developing side effects is in direct proportion to the length of time taking the medication and cafergot.

Alkylglycerols GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Alkylglycerols AKG's ; are lipids fats ; with a glycerol backbone that stimulate the production of white blood cells leukocytes ; to normal levels and encourage the growth of antibodies. AKGs are found in human breast milk, cow's milk, and the livers of most animals and fish. Shark liver contains an exceptionally high level of AKGs. Alkylglycerols are considered critical to the development of a healthy immune system in children. ROLE IN ANTI-AGING: Animal studies suggest that AKGs may inhibit cancer growth by selectively destroying cancer cells via their ability to induce apoptosis. Some studies have also found that AKG's help the body to eliminate toxic heavy metals such as mercury and that they may help protect healthy tissue from the effects of radiation therapy. Because of the immune system enhancing effects of alkylglycerols, they also help the body to fight bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS: People deficient in alkylglycerols may be prone to infections. THERAPEUTIC DAILY AMOUNT: 500-1500mg per day MAXIMUM SAFE LEVEL: No side effects have been side with doses as high as 6000mg per day. SIDE EFFECTS CONTRAINDICATIONS: None known Borage Oil GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The borage plant Borago officinalis ; has been exploited for its medicinal properties for more than 400 years. Although research has found little evidence to suggest that the herb itself has any health benefits, borage oil, which is derived from the seeds, may be useful in treating a number of conditions. Borage oil is a rich source of gamma linoleic acid GLA ; , an omega-6 essential fatty acid that the body converts to the anti-inflammatory prostaglandin E1 PGE1 ; . ROLE IN ANTIAGING: Borage oil may be of benefit to people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Results of one study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania revealed that high doses of borage oil 1.4 grams a day ; significantly reduced pain and swelling in arthritic joints. Other studies suggest that borage oil combats inflammation and reduces joint damage, however it should be noted that participants in these studies were given very high doses of the oil. There is some evidence to suggest that borage oil may help people with multiple sclerosis. Some researchers believe that high levels of essential fatty acids present in borage oil could help to combat the inflammation associated with the disease, furthermore these acids may also help to prevent nerve damage. In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, GLA also enhances the transmission of nerve impulses. Together, these facts suggest that borage oil may be useful in treating Alzheimer's-memory disorders. Animal research also suggests that the oil may help to combat stress and high blood pressure hypertension ; . Borage oil is also cited as a treatment for acne, eczema, endometriosis, female infertility, gout, impotence, lupus SLE ; , PMS, psoriasis, respiratory infections, and rosacea. DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS: Not applicable THERAPEUTIC DAILY AMOUNT: 1, 000 - 1, 300 mg of borage oil a day will provide roughly 240 to 300 mg of GLA. Taking borage oil with food may improve GLA absorption. MAXIMUM SAFE LEVEL: Many studies using borage oil employ relatively high, for example, drugs.

D-O-10 THE THREE DIMENSIONAL CONSTRUCTION FOR THE ANATOMICAL DISSECTION OF THE BRAIN J. Atanesyan first-Author assistant of anatomy, neurologist ; P.V.Roy, A chotte, S.Provin, J.P.Clarijs Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Experimental Anatomy Department Abstract The aim of our study is to make the special 3D construction and develop dissection technique for obtaining the discrete areas of the human brain. The principal difference of this dissection is that 3D construction has 3 different possibilities to move and cut several areas and parts of the brain, and visualise the insights of the hemispheres limbic system, thalamus, epithalamia, fornix, hippocampus, pellucid septum and more ; , show all the parts together within the network of other parts of the brain. Using the atlas of Pellegrino et al. as a guide, stereotaxically defined areas are removed from coronal, sagital and horizontal sections prepared with sectioning stages constructed of photo slides 10 ; . During our dissection we used all the flats at the same time. After anatomical dissection and eventually plastination all the internal structures of the brain stay 3D and together. The result of the brain dissection is helpful, is better understood in the 3D location and it is expected to be used as educational tool for medical and paramedical students and docents.

The concept of targeting the delivery of specific drugs to colon is quite self explanatory and sufficient scientific rationale is available to support the justification. Various approaches are being researched in attempts to understand and achieve the desired goal of targeting the delivery to a specific organ, the colon. All the available approaches have their own limitations and advantages and extensive research is being focused on these to improve further. Time-dependant systems are not a very practical solution due to variable GI tract transit times but may have a potential role in diseases that are subject to circadian rhythm. On the other hand, pressure-controlled systems hold some promise but currently little is known about the luminal pressures of different regions of GI tract, and at present the commercial manufacturing methods have some unresolved issues to be addressed. The only system available as of today is based on pH but these systems can possibly deliver the drug at the duodenum or may not deliver the drug at all. Further research is ongoing in different labs and it is quite likely that a day is not far off when new, improved polymers will replace the existing available polymers with improved performance. The bacterially activated systems seem to be have the greatest potential as of today as the levels of bacterial enzyme activity is most unique and exploitable in this region. The amylase-based COLAL is the leading product in the later phases of clinical evaluation and has promise for commercial manufacturing. Another area that still needs to be understood is human physiology and inter- intra-subject variability. Once this aspect of the human system is understood, the gained knowledge can be applied to focus research on identifying suitable analytical tools that can predict the in vivo performance of the developed system. At the end of the day the need of today's business and patient community is to identify the appropriate approach that can result in the delivery of drugs in a safe, effective and less expensive manner with minimum fluctuation in terms of release of drugs at target site. If so, the overall cost of development of such a technology will be practically feasible and commercially viable. s.

The recently signed Federal Budget finally recognizes i.e. is willing to pay ; Nurse Practitioners albeit at a lesser rate than MDs. Several lesser known portions of the final bill seem to spell the eventual death knell for Rural Health Clinics. RHCs have a requirement that at least 60% of the service be provided by a NP PA. There had been a provision allowing this requirement be waived when a new clinic is opening. Now new clinics will have to meet this basic requirement. That's the good news. The final RHC language also puts a payment cap on all RHCs except those operated by hospitals with 50 or fewer beds; new clinics can only be certified in areas that have been designated as a shortage and bactrim.
